When I was a new mom I lived no where near my family. I had friends at work, co-workers but for the most part it was my husband and I. Of course when I needed help or advice I could call up my mom but that was back in the day when you paid for a long distance call. My sister is younger than me and had no child raising experience (yet). In fact, when my first son I wasn’t even aware of the internet and didn’t own a computer. I relied on books like “What to Expect When Your Expecting” (which has expanded even more).
How wonderful it would have been to have a community of parents who were going through what I was going through. Not 50 years ago but in the hear and now. My first son was not the easiest of children. He hated the car and lived in his swing (the old fashion wind up swing). He had reflux and at the time the doctor refused to prescribe anything because he was gaining weight. I was told that no action was taken until they turn 18 months (because most babies grew out of it), or if the baby was not growing properly. I spent the first 18 months of my sons life using receiving blankets as “puke” rags and listening to my mom tell me something was wrong with my son.
